Mitered Ripple Hat _5

With a crochet hook, slip stitch together the last row of live stitches and the 16 stitches along the left side edge to the first row of 42 purl stitches to create the circle top of the hat. With right sides together, insert the crochet hook into the back side of the first stitch of the cast on edge and pull thru a loop of the working yarn, *insert the hook thru the next stitch on the cast on edge and into the next live stitch on the needle, YO and pull a loop thru slipping it thru the loop on the hook. Remove the loop from the back needle. Repeat from * for each stitch to center of hat.

Adorn the center of the hat with a pom-pom, a loop, a tassle, a spike tip, etc. To make a spike tip, with double pointed size 6 needles, cast on 4 stitches, knit each stitch in the round for 8 rnds. Fasten off. Use a tapestry needle to weave yarn end through center of live stitches then down center of spike tip, sew the spike tip to the center of the hat.

Hat Band

With right side facing, using the size 6 circular needle, pick up the top loop of 96 slip stitches (an even number) along the outside edge of circle.

K1, p1 for 9 rounds. Bind off this way: If the next stitch on the left needle is a purl stitch, knit this stitch. If the next stitch on the left needle is a knit stitch, purl this stitch. To move the yarn to the front or the back, slip the loop on the right needle to the left needle, then move the yarn to the front or the back under the right needle (I call this a yarn under), then return the loop to the right needle. When two stitches are on the right needle, pull the right stitch over the left stitch and over the tip of the needle so the last stitch worked remains on the needle. Continue to end. Fasten off.
